![]() This is where the whole issue of proprietary drivers and interfaces factors in, and either the the lack of standards or the presence of too many standards becomes a support nightmare. Personally, I see the next stage of computer development to be hopefully more of a 'Lego' model where you just buy or get kits for free and plug them into your environment and the smarts behind it are all buried down at layers that most people don't have to worry about, yet they mesh simply and seamlessly with the existing infrastructure. The same can be said for cars, and to build on that analogy, it'd be hard to imagine an automobile that could really fir every need not to mention that if there were not any serious competition, there would not be enough impetus to drive development.
